King of Kings

I told Sr. Danielle about my idea of having a king of a class. She liked the idea so much that she decided to make thirteen little kings (or queens), one for each class. Because the students have end of the semester examinations in December, she thought it might help rev up their engines. And as a special surprise, there is going to be a King of Kings, the exemplary student of the whole school.

It was Sr. Danielle though who inspired the idea. After a professor gave a very depressing talk about Cholera to the students, Sr. Danielle said that the students need hope and optimism. If they are told constantly how bad they are and how bad life is that is what they will think for the rest of their life.

Now I need to make thirteen crowns!

About biffy317

This blog is about my year in Haiti. I came here not speaking the language, not having a clear idea of what I will be doing to a small, impoverished country in the middle of a crisis. Haitians have A LOT of sayings and one of them is Piti gren fe gro pie bwa, which means a little seed makes a big tree. I hope that my time here will be fruitful and also to participate and observe as Haiti grows and flourishes as well. Seeds need a lot of time, a good foundation, and help from others to grow.
